Restaurant Spotlight: Layla’s Coffeehouse & Eatery

Formerly known as Nezaty’s Cafe, Layla’s reopened last August with a new name and a new location on Pass Road in Gulfport. While Layla’s continues the strong tradition of Nezaty’s, says owner Linsey O’Keefe, the restaurant also has made some tweaks.

“Our menu may look similar, but there have been quite a few new items added, as well as weekly specials featured,” O’Keefe says. “Layla’s still has the welcoming ambiance, but combined with the environment for conversation and gatherings.”

From coffees, teas and lattes to made-in-house pastries and desserts, salads, paninis and soups, O’Keefe says fresh, quality cuisine is Layla’s hallmark.

MOST POPULAR DISHES: “Our hand-rolled breakfast croissants and/or muffins are our most popular quick-grab items,” O’Keefe says. “However, if you have time to sit and dine in, our pancake breakfast or biscuits and gravy is always a crowd pleaser.”

She adds that the lunch items that never miss a beat are the French dip, served with melted cheese and a side of au jus. Also popular is the brisket sandwich, according to O’Keefe, “which we smoke ourselves, or one of our green salads, which is always made fresh with plenty of protein and veggies.”

DELICIOUS NEW ADDITIONS: Layla’s features a new lunch special weekly, ranging from house-made gumbo or Cajun alfredo, which is served with shrimp and sausage, to an open-faced roast beef sandwich that comes with garlic mashed potatoes.

“Our chefs are always whipping up new dishes,” O’Keefe says.

Layla’s also now serves breakfast all day on Saturdays, along with some new brunch items that are served all day. Lox and bagels and the hangover sandwich are the most popular brunch items, according to O’Keefe.
