Why honey deserves a spot in your kitchen

For many, honey is a staple because of its taste — but did you know that it also offers a long list of potential health benefits?

Whether you’re stirring it into your morning tea or drizzling it over a bowl of yogurt, honey can add a touch of sweetness and a boost of nutrition to your day.

WHY CHOOSE HONEY?

Honey is more than just a natural sweetener. Unlike white sugar, honey also contains small amounts of:

  • Antioxidants
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Plant compounds that support health

Honey still contains sugar, but if used in moderation, it can be a delightful part of a well-balanced diet.

HONEY’S SWEET BENEFITS

Boosts antioxidants

Honey contains antioxidants, which help keep your body healthy by fighting inflammation and protecting cells from damage.

Provides quick, natural energy

Need a morning or afternoon pick me up? Honey contains carbohydrates that your body can use for energy. Try adding honey to foods like oatmeal, yogurt, whole grain toast or smoothies for a well-balanced snack that will provide energy and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Soothes a sore throat

Honey’s smooth texture can coat a scratchy throat, making it a common home cold remedy.

May support gut health

Some varieties of honey contain natural probiotics that feed the good bacteria in your gut. A healthy gut can mean:

  • better digestion
  • a stronger immune system
  • better brain power

IS LOCAL HONEY REALLY BETTER?

You’ve probably heard the claim that eating local honey can help improve seasonal allergies. The truth? Scientists are still researching how geography impacts honey‘s health benefits. Still, buying local honey can be a great choice because it:

  • supports local beekeepers
  • helps protect honeybee populations
  • bolsters the local economy
