Restaurant Spotlight: Beachside at Buoys

After 20-plus years in fine dining and bistros in South Florida, Executive Chef Joseph Castoro moved to Bay St. Louis to help run the family marina. Knowing that the marina business is busiest in the summer, he devised a small weekend menu for the season consisting of smash burgers and hand-cut fries.

In 2014, he met Michelle Beauregard, who has a flair for marketing and an eye for business. The stars aligned, and despite a slight delay due to Hurricane Ida, the pair opened their beachside oasis serving quintessential American cuisine such as hand-crafted burgers and fries, wings, wraps and more last September.

“Besides being a scratch kitchen, you can’t beat our view of the Bay of Saint Louis, Cat Island, and the Gulf of Mexico,” Castoro says.

MOST POPULAR DISHES: The Hangover Cure features a one-third pound, Angus hand-patted burger, fried egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and a side of hand cut fries.

For the crispy carnitas wrap, Castoro says, “We marinate our own pork butts to make our carnitas. The meat is chunked and flash fried for crispiness. The wrap includes the pork chunks, homemade mojo, onions, cilantro, a side of sour cream, a side of homemade pico de gallo and a side of hand-cut fries.”

DELICIOUS NEW ADDITIONS: “We are adding a few new items to our menu to get ready for summer, so stay tuned!,” Castoro says. “And from Memorial Day to Labor Day, we will be open seven days a week!”
