Restaurant Spotlight: BagelBees

Shortly after separating from the U.S. Navy, Stefanie Jantz realized her lifelong dream of opening a bakery. A good friend suggested a bagel shop, as none were established in the area at the time.

“I started to experiment with recipes, learn the process, and understand the tradition of a bagel,” Jantz says. “However, mine are definitely not traditional or New York style. I wanted mine to be slightly softer and more versatile, so I created a recipe suitable for what I had in mind.”

After being open for a year and a half, Bagelbees has 40-plus flavors and is still creating more. Eleven original flavors are offered daily along with a flavor of the day, which varies from garlic to mac and cheese.

“As you walk in, you’re always greeted,” Jantz says. “I encourage my girls to make everyone feel welcome and at home. We have grown so close to many in our community that they have become family.”

MOST POPULAR DISHES: Customers have many favorites, including the homemade pimento cheese, chicken salad, cheesecake and pavlova, as well as muffulettas with homemade olive salad. One of the most popular bagel flavors is the maple bacon with white cheddar cheese. “Everything we serve is sure to be loaded with flavor,” Jantz says.

DELICIOUS NEW ADDITIONS: BagelBees introduced keto items at the beginning of the year, and Jantz says there’s more items in the grab n’ go section, including bacon/sausage egg cups, chicken/ steak salads, stuffed peppers, low-carb chicken salad wraps and low-carb pinwheels. Fresh fruit and veggies also are available.
