Lauren, a client of mine, has a full schedule and prefers a routine that helps her feel put together without spending too much time getting ready. Like many women, she’s been leaning toward a more minimal approach to makeup, something that enhances her features while still feeling natural and wearable.

SKIN FIRST

Instead of a full-coverage foundation, Lauren prefers using a lightweight skin tint paired with spot concealing. This allows her to even out her complexion while still letting her natural skin show through. The result is a softer, more natural finish that works well for everyday life.

But before applying makeup, we focus on skin prep. Hydrated skin makes a noticeable difference in how makeup sits and wears throughout the day. Daily sunscreen has become an essential step, along with a consistent skincare routine that supports overall skin health. There also has been a growing interest in professional treatments like laser services, dermaplaning and chemical peels. These options can help improve skin texture and tone over time, allowing for a lighter, more minimal approach to makeup.

KEEP IT NATURAL

To maintain a fresh, effortless look, cream blush and bronzer are great options. They blend seamlessly into the skin, adding warmth and dimension without looking heavy or overly sculpted. This helps create a natural glow while still giving the face subtle definition.

SOFT DEFINITION

Brows and lashes are kept simple. A light brow gel adds shape, while curling the lashes and applying mascara opens the eyes in a subtle way. Some also are opting for lash clusters for a bit of extra definition without the commitment of full lash extensions.

LOW-MAINTENANCE COLOR

Lip stains have become a go-to for many women. They provide a natural wash of color that lasts throughout the day without constant reapplication, making them ideal for a simplified routine.

EMBRACE YOUR FEATURES

More women are embracing their natural features, including real and faux freckles — creating or enhancing them, rather than covering them. This creates a more authentic, effortless look.

PARING DOWN THE ROUTINE

Long-lasting enhancements like lip blushing (a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo that enhances natural color) and softly defined brows also are becoming more popular. These options can help reduce the need for daily makeup, making routines quicker and more convenient.

MINIMAL MAKEUP MUST-DOS

  • Focus on hydrated, well-prepped skin
  • Choose lightweight coverage
  • Use cream products for a natural glow
  • Keep brows and lashes soft
  • Opt for long-wearing, low-maintenance products

Remember: Minimalist makeup isn’t about doing less; it’s about doing what works. A simplified routine still can create a polished, confident look for everyday life.
