Booked the trip of a lifetime? You need travel insurance

You just scheduled the trip of a lifetime. It’s your chance to see marvelous sights and enjoy life and the beauty of the world. What could possibly go wrong?

Unfortunately, many things can go amiss when it comes to travel, such as flight delays, severe weather, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, medical emergencies, trip cancellations or interruptions, lost or stolen belongings, lost or delayed baggage, emergency evacuation, legal issues and lost passports. Having travel insurance will give you peace of mind knowing that you are financially protected and have a safety net in case of unforeseen circumstances.

WHAT TYPES OF TRAVEL COVERAGE ARE THERE?

Depending on your trip, you may need adventure sports coverage, pet coverage, rental car coverage, coverage for expensive personal items or coverage to cancel for any reason. Trip interruption coverage would reimburse the cost of your trip due to unforeseen sickness or injury. Trip-saver coverage can provide funds for additional costs associated or unexpected delays and assist with ticket change fees, transportation, meals and hotel costs. Trip cancellation can reimburse your trip cost due to weather issues. There are also options for quarantine issues due to medical exposures. Check around because your insurance agent and travel agents have options for you to consider.

WHAT DOES TRAVEL INSURANCE COST?

Several factors determine the premium for travel insurance, including your age, the duration of your trip, where you are going, the trip cost and whether you have pre-existing medical conditions. If you purchase the coverage within a few days of booking your trip, several other benefits are included for no additional cost.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I FILE A CLAIM?

Should an unexpected event occur during your trip that is covered by your travel insurance policy, you would file a claim with the insurance provider by submitting documentation and evidence of the event or expenses incurred, and the claims consultant will evaluate your claim based on the policy terms and conditions. If your claim is approved, the insurance provider will reimburse you for the covered expenses, up to the policy limits.

Be sure to carefully read and understand the terms and conditions of your policy to understand the claim process and know what is covered and whether there are any exclusions or limitations. Keep all relevant documents, receipts and contact information for the insurance provider while traveling. Enjoy your trip!
