Grab convenient and healthy options on the fly

Did you know there are places on the Gulf Coast where fresh, home-cooked meals are readily available for pick up on a daily basis, and in some cases, even deliver? On those days when you don’t have time to whip up something for your family or because of health reasons the drive-thru isn’t the best source of nutrition, check out these meals-to-go options.

Food options: Home-style cooking

Popular items: Smoked pecan chicken salad, chicken and wild rice, crawfish pasta, crawfish pie

Delivery: No

Catering service: Yes

Cost: Freezer meals range from $13.95 to $41.95 and are based on serving size

Hours: Lunch served Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; casserole pickup Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

How it works: Freezer and cooler is stocked daily with a variety of items from casseroles to stuffed meats to sides items and more. Customers can pick up items to serve at any time, or at no charge, they can call ahead and request a casserole be heated for a hot-and-ready meal they can pick up on the way home. Salad and biscuits can be added for an additional charge.

How it works: Customers order a week’s worth of Paleo meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) by Saturday evening to pick up on Monday, or have it delivered anywhere between Gulfport and Pascagoula. Individual freezer meals also are available onsite for grab-and-go, as well as staple items such as Lola’s chicken salad, pimento cheese, pasta salad and smoked tuna dip.

How it works: A new menu is posted every Tuesday via website and Facebook for customers to choose items from a Paleo-based menu that stays around vegetables, meats, nuts and healthy fats. A head count of how many meals to prepare is needed by Saturday for a Monday pickup.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

How it works: A new menu is written every week based on the Zone Diet, which is a balance of fats, carbs and protein in small portions eaten throughout the day (everything prepared is sugar free). Customers pick up fresh meals twice a week every Tuesday and Friday between 3-5 p.m. (breakfast, lunch, dinner, two snacks and desserts for every three days). Storefront also is stocked with healthy grab-and-go options including meals, snacks and bakery items. For those not able to make it to Bay St. Louis to pick up meals, various items are available at Coast Health and Nutrition in Gulfport.
