Spring brings blooms that are pretty, fresh and fragrant, but I like to wear my flowers — as in floral prints. They last longer, do not require daily care and are more portable. What I lack in a green thumb, I make up for in creating outfits with flair.
Some women tell me that floral patterns are too busy, have too much color or feel overwhelming. Before you dismiss flowers as “too girly,” let me suggest a few ways to wear them without feeling like a walking botanical garden.
- Wear florals in neutral or basic colors like black, navy and white.
- Add florals to your accessories; think bag charms, scarves tied around a ponytail or jewelry.
- Mix florals with other subtle prints, like polka dots or stripes.
- Choose dark florals in red and black for a dark romance vibe.
- Rethink the use of florals in your wardrobe. Try them as appliques on jeans, a 3D headband or sandals. Incorporate them into loungewear, socks or even intimates.
Don’t be intimidated by florals this season. Choose styles that make you feel lighthearted, happy and in full bloom!
- While you may associate florals with soft, pale shades, remember that they also come in darker, bolder colors.

- Celestial hoops add another layer of whimsy.

- Accentuate your outfit’s nature vibe by wearing a necklace with charms like lightning bolts.

- Add pops of color to your floral outfit with brightly colored accessories.

- Limit the items in your cute, coordinating bag to essentials: sunscreen, lip balm, sunnies, keys, and your phone.
