Hot weather, cool style

Look effortlessly chic even when temperatures soar

September is the hottest month of summer for me. Makeup seems to slide right off your face, and your hair goes from flat to frizzy in 60 seconds. Your glasses fog up the minute you walk out the door. It’s brutal and a big challenge for many women to dress this time of year.

How are we supposed to look even remotely decent in hot, humid weather? The answer: light layers. Start with a tank or camisole that has thin straps, then top it off with a layer that you can leave open, like a kimono or button-up shirt, and knot the ends. Sweaters with very open weaves also will keep you cool.

For your summer wardrobe, choose breathable fabrics like cotton, linen or silk. They are lightweight, quick-drying, durable and soft. I like to keep the fit loose, which is why I prefer dresses to pants.

Finally, don’t forget your foundations. Bras are made with mesh to increase the flow of air, so you won’t feel as hot.

OUR LOVELY COAST HAS SO MUCH TO OFFER. THE KEY IS KNOWING HOW TO DRESS SO YOU CAN ENJOY IT IN STYLE.
