On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, generosity always has been part of how we show up for one another — and Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s 228 Day is a growing celebration of that spirit.
Now in its second year, 228 Day builds on the success of its inaugural 2025 celebration, inviting the community to once again come together for a month-long focus on philanthropy, connection and impact. Named for our area code, 228 Day highlights the people, places and causes that make South Mississippi home.
Throughout February, GCCF will host and partner on events designed to inspire giving and strengthen community ties, all leading up to the 228 Day Open House and Celebration on Feb. 27 at the Knight Nonprofit Center. Plus, all contributions to 228 Day benefit GCCF’s Community Impact Fund, a flexible resource that allows the Foundation to respond to emerging needs, support local nonprofits and invest where help is needed most.
“Our mission is centered on helping people leave meaningful legacies that benefit causes they care about,” says Dr. Christen H. Duhé, president and executive director of GCCF. “228 Day reflects that commitment, and we invite everyone to be part of the impact.”
At its core, 228 Day is about neighbors supporting neighbors and investing in the place we live and work. Gifts support GCCF’s Community Impact Fund, which helps address community needs and sustain the Foundation’s work across South Mississippi as opportunities and challenges arise. With several levels of giving available for both individuals and businesses, 228 Day makes it easier than ever to give with purpose.
Plus, through the Endow Mississippi Tax Credit Program, eligible gifts may qualify for a 25% state tax credit, making donors’ generosity go even further.
