Finding your why

What’s inside your head and your heart truly determine the outcome of your life. I know that to change the body, you first must change the mind; there must be a paradigm shift. You must dig deep and find your “why.” This means peeling back the onion, shedding some layers, and yes, maybe some tears, to reach the heart and understand your reason for change.

Everyone makes choices, and the choices we’ve made have led us to this point. Our choices can bring unhealthy consequences, like being overworked, stressed, lacking sleep and exercise, eating poorly and suffering from low self-esteem, which brings on negative self-talk and a negative self-image. Sound familiar?

The decision-making process, especially committing to change and finding the reason you want to change, is very hard. But with focus, willpower and positive affirmations and actions, it is doable.

Today, you can choose to find your “why” — to become the healthiest, happiest version of yourself.

“How do I find my ‘why?’” you ask. Your “why” is the reason, the true reason, you want to change. Stare it down, face to face, and then write down your “why” and read and work on it every day.

A health and fitness transformation involves every aspect of your life, so the decision-making process must become more intentional than subconscious.

Your “why” will guide your decision making, and you’ll be focusing on getting to it every day. That means you will have to actively engage yourself in every decision you make. This is often difficult because of the pace at which most of us live our lives. We are always in non-stop mode, with work, family and other obligations leading us to a lot of bad decisions in terms of food choices and exercise. They fall to the bottom of the priority list sometimes.

But when you find your why — the reason you want to change and evolve into the healthiest, happiest, version of yourself — you will begin to be mindful and think through your daily decisions.
