Gulfport, MS, March 29, 2016– Dorothy P. Wilson, publisher/editor of Gulf Coast Woman, LLC and president of DWilson and Associates, LLC, has been named the 2016 Mississippi Women in Business Champion by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Wilson was notified of the honor by Janita R. Stewart, district director of the U.S. SBA. who wrote, “Your hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to your community have made you a success.”
Wilson was nominated for the award by Marcia McDowell, executive director of the South Mississippi Contract Procurement Center.
Wilson, majority shareholder in Gulf Coast Woman, has led the company through a period of rapid growth in the past four years. This year, the company expanded, publishing a second publication, Gulf Coast Weddings, in January. In 2015, Wilson helped to conceive and worked with a team to develop and launch SUCCESS Women’s Conference. The inaugural conference drew more than 500 women to hear keynote speakers, attend workshops, and participate in networking opportunities personally and professionally.
Wilson serves on the board of the Boys & Girls Club and MS Coast Chamber and the MS Coast Chamber Board of Directors and is a mentor/coach for a number of businesswomen on the Coast.
Wilson has been invited to join other outstanding Small Business Week winners at an awards event to be held on Tuesday, May 3rd, in Jackson, Miss. The week of May 1st, SBA will honor the nation’s top small business entrepreneurs for their personal successes and contributions to our nation’s economy, and will highlight the importance of America’s 28 million+ small businesses.
