Built-in best friends

Through every season, twin sisters Blair Strong and Brittany Cornfoot are each other’s biggest cheerleader

More than just twins, Blair Strong and Brittany Cornfoot have walked through life side by side as teammates, confidantes and best friends.

The 38-year-olds, who were raised and still reside in The Bay, say their favorite thing about sisterhood is having someone who truly “gets” them.

“She’s the one person who’s seen me at my absolute worst and still shows up — no judgment, just love,” Cornfoot says. “Whether we’re laughing until we cry, venting about life or sitting in total silence, there’s a comfort in knowing she’s my person. It’s the kind of connection that doesn’t need explaining; it’s just there — constant and unshakable.”

This kind of unique relationship is at the heart of National Sisters Day, celebrated each year on the first Sunday in August. From cracking inside jokes to supporting each other through life’s struggles, sisters share a bond that goes beyond kinship.

During times when they’ve felt lost, Strong and Cornfoot have acted as each other’s compass. Whenever they worry about falling behind or failing, their twin is there to remind them to keep going and that they don’t need to have it all figured out.

“She didn’t try to fix everything; she just reminded me that I was enough — even in the mess,” Strong says. “And coming from her, someone who’s walked beside me through every phase of life, it hit different. She sees me in ways no one else does, and she always knows exactly when to pull me back to myself.”

‘LITERALLY INSEPARABLE’

While they are very much their own women — Strong and Cornfoot say they have some traits in common — including type A personalities, a perfectionist bent and a tendency to overthink.

“Those can all be good or bad qualities,” Strong acknowledges with a laugh.

The sisters also share a lifelong love of cheerleading and participated together at Pearl River Community College. As a teacher at Bay High School, Strong’s involvement in the sport has continued as Bay Waveland School District’s head cheer coach. Outside of work, she’s mom to Millie, 15; Jhett, 12; Axel, 7; and Landry, 3; and has two bonus kids, Addison and Asher, through her boyfriend and high-school sweetheart, Juston.

Meanwhile, Cornfoot is a registered nurse and works for a company called Reimagine Care, which provides symptom management to oncology patients. Married to her husband, Duncan, she has three children: Xander, 18; Macy, 14; and Bowen, 8. Through her daughter and niece, as well as helping Strong with her school teams, she still gets to enjoy cheerleading, too.

While both twins are now busy moms, they still make their sibling a priority — whether it’s a joint workout, shopping or dancing to a good band.

“We enjoy pool days together, or even just a quick dinner at the Mexican restaurant is enjoyable to us!” Cornfoot says. “We both live and breathe supporting all of our kids at all of their sporting events. We love to hang out with our families together.”

Strong says she and her sister are “literally inseparable!”

“We legit text or talk on the phone all day long,” she adds. “We tell one another everything — sometimes probably too much!”

‘THERE’S NO BREAKING OUR BOND’

If you ask either twin their personal motto, both point to the same scripture passage from Jeremiah: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’” declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” They also realize how lucky they are to have such a loyal companion— through childhood, heartbreaks and major milestones — and how rare such an “emotional safety net” is.

They may not agree on everything — Strong does not like salad or vegetables; Cornfoot loves both — but the twins agree that no one knows them like their sister.

“She’s the person I fight with and laugh with the most, and even when we don’t see eye to eye, there’s no breaking our bond,” Cornfoot says. “She’s not just my sister — she’s part of who I am.”
