Barely but there

This summers’ theme will be minimum vs. maximum or in other words, “Bare vs. All There. Although bare skin or bold red lips are nothing new to the makeup scene, the way you style and apply your makeup this season is the key to its success.

To be bare, one must first start with a great skincare routine. Be careful with facial oils this season. They do not pair well with my all-time favorite product, sunscreen! If you apply your sunscreen on top of the facial oil, it will dilute the sunscreen’s effectiveness.  Stick with moisturizers that have an SPF and leave the facial oils as your nighttime regimen!

Strobing will be the top technique this summer. This constitutes as a “skin first” approach. Hydrated, highlighted and healthy skin is what its all about. This look can be achieved with a translucent highlighting powder applied on all the high points of the face. Or one can easily mix a highlighting cream, such as MAC Strobe Cream, into their moisturizer. Now is the time to put away the contour and focus on fresh skin and flushed cheeks. A barely there sun-kissed glow, paired with diffused golden shadows and freckles are a must this season.

Heavy brows will be a thing of the past, or at least in the warmer months ahead. From the runway to the magazines, we are seeing a huge decline in bold, dark brows. We want to focus on the natural color and apply product that is soft and uncontrolled. Soft eyebrow pencils and matte eye shadows will be great to have on hand.

An “all-there” look is as simple as adding a bold color to the bare trend. Whether it’s a bold lipstick or blue eyeliner, the possibilities are endless and welcomed. This is a great time to be yourself, show your personality and have fun with color!

Bold lips are nothing new. But what’s exciting is finding new ways to play up your bold lip. The lip texture we want to achieve is a “velvet texture.” Simply apply your matte lipstick and tap a blush or powder right on top for a nice soft layer of velvet.

This is also a time to have fun with your bottom eyeliner. Try fun colors and metallics as liner on the bottom lash line. And blue hues are everywhere this season. Whether it was graphic blue eyeliner or diffused blue shadows that encompassed the whole lid, it’s making its way back onto our faces.

Experiment with color. And if you always wanted to try blue, try smudging that blue eyeliner on your bottom lash line for a fun and flirty impact.
