From the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi
The Biloxi Civic Center soon will host a lively sock hop to support and celebrate the cause of mental health.
Dress the part and embrace the retro vibes for a night of fun and giving back at the 2025 Don’t Worry, Be Happy event. This annual bash, set for July 11, supports the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, helping fund vital programs that serve the community.
AN EVENING OF ENTERTAINMENT AND GIVING
Guests will enjoy live music by Mike Halat and Co. and indulge in a food tasting featuring some of the Coast’s best restaurants. Sip and savor at the drink contest, where you can vote for your favorite beverage. The silent auction offers incredible items for bidding, and even if you can’t attend in person, you still can participate via us.givergy.com/BeHappy2025/.
HONORING A COMMUNITY CHAMPION
This year, Butch Oustalet will receive the Annette O’Keefe Humanitarian Award in recognition of his dedication to supporting the Coast community. His foundation has contributed to numerous charitable causes, continuing the legacy of Annette O’Keefe, a former president of the Mental Health Association’s Board of Directors and a passionate mental health advocate.
MEET THE HONOREES
The other 2025 honorees, who will be recognized at the event, are as follows:
- Rita Green

- Kyle and Morgan Haden

- Ronnie and Nakisha Henderson

- Heather Leblanc & Friends

- Michael and Cecilia Myhres

- Sara Scott

- Cody Shafer

- Kenny Williams

All honorees were nominated for their commitment to mental health, whether through personal experiences or professional contributions.
“Mental health is often overlooked, especially in fast-paced industries like business, hospitality, and technology, where people are expected to constantly produce and perform,” says honoree Rita M. Green of Geaux Fig Co.
Honoree Heather Leblanc, upon learning of her selection, asked if her closest friends could join her, highlighting the importance of support and connection — values central to the Mental Health Association’s mission. Joining Leblanc are Sara Carter, Wendi Gazzo, Ali Kern, Jill Militello and Melinda North. This remarkable group of friends have stood by each other for over 30 years, navigating life’s ups and downs together.
WHY MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS
Mental health is a vital part of overall wellbeing, yet it often is surrounded by stigma. The truth is, mental illness does not discriminate, and anyone can face challenges. Thankfully, awareness is growing, with public figures like Halle Berry, Kristen Bell and Emma Stone openly discussing their experiences.
The Mental Health Association of South Mississippi faces increased financial pressure due to federal funding cuts, making support more essential than ever. Its core programs include drop-in services, homeless outreach and housing assistance, and educational initiatives. Learn more at www.msmentalhealth.org.
