Transitional periods are the trickiest times when it comes to our wardrobes. We may wake up to a breezy spring day, and three hours later, its straight-up summer! Learning how to dress for the in-between is not for the faint of heart — but it’s a skill that’s easy to master with some simple, helpful tips and a few wardrobe essentials.
LIGHT, LOVELY LINEN
Linen is my go-to fabric for the warmer months. One thing I love about this material is that it’s so light and breathable. As we get deeper into the season, we’re seeing brands like H&M, Banana Republic, Dissh and many others fill their racks with linen pieces that make transitional dressing a breeze.
For instance, Banana Republic’s square-neck bustier, part of a two-piece set, would be a great addition to your closet ($30, bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com). It’s airy and easy to pull off for a day or evening look.

COLOR CRUSH: BUTTER YELLOW
You’re going to see this shade everywhere, so why not give it a try? From dresses to blazers to jumpsuits, this hue compliments everyone I’ve seen wearing it.
Mango’s knit dress ($129.99, shop.mango.com) is perfect for those days where you just want to put on something easy and stylish. I adore the pleats at the bottom, and I always look for movement when purchasing an item like this; it’s such a fun piece to have in your closet for any occasion.
The ruched balloon-sleeve blouse by & Other Stories ($109, www.stories.com) is another sweet, feminine pick to consider adding to your spring-summer wardrobe.

TRUSTY TANKS
Tank tops are so back! To be fair, I don’t think they ever left — at least not here on the Coast. These are a must-have for the spring-summer transition, and there’s so many styles I’m loving right now — including GapStudio’s rib tank top ($78); it’s perfect for the weather we’re having and easy to pair with a cardigan when it’s breezy out. Plus, the bold color screams spring-summer.
Another favorite: J.Crew’s scoop-neck tank top ($14.50-$20.99) is a great addition to any outfit. Whether you’re heading to work, brunch or even a weekend playdate with the kids, every woman needs a cool tank in her closet.
SWEET, STYLISH BALLET FLATS
Ballet flats are easy, simple and chic; add to cart! While I’m a heels girl through and through, comfort is a top priority — especially when you’re on your feet most of the day. Ballet flats are so easy to style and super cute. I’m in love with the square-toed styles in bold colors, or even blinged-out pairs that are sure to turn heads.
Madewell’s red Greta ballet flats ($148, www.madewell.com) are perfect! They are made of leather, so you can expect them to last. The best part about this pair is they’re breathable. They’d pair perfectly with a long skirt, or even your favorite jean shorts.
