Spring means longer days, outdoor fun and family adventures on the Coast. For moms juggling schedules, school and loads of activities, keeping their skin and their children’s skin healthy is essential. Teaching kids good habits now sets them up for lifelong skin health.
QUICK SKIN TIPS
Sunscreen is non-negotiable
Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or greater on all exposed skin. Don’t forget the ears, neck, lips and tops of feet. Use a lip balm with SPF to protect lips and reapply sunscreen every two hours during outdoor play.
Infants Under 6 months
Avoid sunscreen. Keep babies in the shade, and use protective clothing and hats.
Choose mineral sunscreen for little ones
For babies older than 6 months and toddlers, use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide formulas. Mineral sunscreens are gentle and safe for sensitive skin.
Spot the warning signs
Monitor moles or spots that change in size, shape or color. Early detection is key.
Hydration helps
Water keeps skin soft and prevents dryness from sun and heat.
Have a gentle daily care routine
Use mild cleansers and moisturizers to prevent rashes, eczema flare-ups or irritation after swimming.
Time it right
Plan outdoor activities before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. to avoid peak sun exposure, when UV rays are strongest.
