What if you looked in your closet and wore what you already have? It’s a radical concept, I know, but hear me out. I’m calling it the ‘styled from what you have” challenge.
I am sure we all have the basics: earthy neutrals, brown, camel, rusty red and pumpkin orange. How about bold reds, royal blue or jewel tones of vibrant green and deep burgundy?
What about denim? Skinny jeans are out (finally), but you probably have a pair of baggy or wide-leg jeans. Denim is having a revival in some ways, but did we ever stop wearing it?
When it comes to dresses, slip dresses are back — believe it or not. I know you didn’t get rid of yours because I didn’t.
Trends don’t ever really go away; they fade for a time, but they always return. And that makes your own wardrobe the perfect place to do some seasonal shopping.
I’ve searched the runway shows and looked at what’s trending so you don’t have to. I challenge you to put together head-turning looks using pieces from your own closet.
Having said that, Here’s what’s trending:
Romanticized balletcore is back.
Think a clean, aesthetic look, like a soft cashmere sweater with a pencil skirt and ballet flats. Don’t forget accessories! Add a string of pearls, pearl earrings and a small handbag.
You can pull this outfit together with pieces in your collection and look like you spent a lot of time and money pulling it together.
Silver and gold metallics are still on the rise.
You’ll want to pair this look with the jewel tones you already have in your closet. Think deep teal, ruby red, forest green and vibrant pumpkin. All these colors look great for every skin tone.
Exaggerated sleeves are having a moment.
Remember when every dress and blouse had bell sleeves? Today, we’re seeing another revival of soft, feminine, sheer and translucent elements. Layer this under a jewel-toned jacket. Add bold jewelry, and your look is complete.
Update your athleisure look.
For a fresh twist on a favorite, add an athletic jacket over your sports-bra top and leggings.
Statement accessories: My favorite trend of all.
Go for the maximalist look with big, chunky hoop earrings, heavy, bold necklaces and as many bracelets as your arm can hold. Look in your jewelry box and bring out all those old brooches. Don’t wear just one; add two or three to your dress or jacket.
Will you take the styled-from-what-you-have challenge?
