StyleMe: Mastering transitional style

How to dress stylishly for spring’s mood swings

Is it spring yet? Well — kind of. March is one of those transitional months when the weather can’t make up its mind — so dressing for it seems impossible. Stores tease us with all sorts of pretty apparel we can’t wait to wear … if only it were warmer.

When it comes to seasonal dressing, stylish layers are the key. Start with tank sweater or long-sleeved shirts and tees, then add a blazer, sweatshirt or hoodie. Blazers are not just for the office and can elevate your everyday looks — whether it’s your favorite denim or a knit dress on casual Friday.

Pro tip: Have a lunch date? Pair a tee with a blazer and jeans for the perfect casual, yet polished, look.

Another way to make transitional dressing easier is to categorize your closet — allowing you to easily find the pieces you need. Putting outfits together will go much faster, and you may surprise yourself by discovering some new looks in your own wardrobe.

• Accentuate your waist and elongate your legs with figure-flattering wide-leg jeans.

• You can wear a tank sweater underneath a blazer or on its own, which makes it wonderfully versatile.

• Blazers are wardrobe staple — and essential for transitional dressing. Thet top off dresses for work or tees for play.

• Make your feet happy and comfortable in a suede loafer; add socks to modernize your look.

• A layered necklace, like this one featuring a classic horse-bit charm, is a simple, yet elegant, way to accessorize.
