I have come a long way and learned so much since I began my Healthier Me journey on Sept. 21, 2016. The Ideal Protein program taught me how to think differently about food. Food is to fuel your body. It is not to be used as comfort food when you’re stressed. I am in control of what I put into my body; it is not in control of me. I don’t need to eat nearly as much as I had learned to do. I can be full and content eating healthier choices. I can manage cravings by food prepping and shopping for healthier choices.

Ideal Protein was the right choice for me to kick-start my journey because it helped me to be more disciplined as I transitioned. Now, I’m taking what I learned and adding to it by working out with trainer Brendan Jones of Body Axis Fitness at Anytime Fitness in D’Iberville.

I chose Brendan as my trainer because he has a good track record with working one-to-one with his clients to help them change their thinking about what they can do, training them how to eat “clean” and how to work hard to transform their bodies. With Brendan, it’s not just a job; he invests a great deal of effort in helping his clients be more successful, whether with weight loss or rehabilitation. He takes the time to modify exercises when necessary and he also will adjust his schedule if necessary to make sure you stay on track with your training. “I can’t make it today; too much work” will not work as an excuse with Brendan. I tried that once and he responded, “I can come to your office and we can do the workout there.”

I hit my 40-pound weight-loss goal in early January on Ideal Protein. Typically, you will gain about 5 pounds back as you transition to eating more carbs and sugar, but as a result of working with Brendan, not only am I toning up but I have continued to lose pounds. Total loss so far: 47 pounds! (That’s based on my scale; we’ll see what Brendan’s scale shows at my next monthly weigh-in!)

If you didn’t get started on a plan in January, come join me at Brendan’s Honeybees class on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at Anytime Fitness. This is a great way to get started. I can now do multiple laps around the shopping center where Anytime is located without thinking I’ll pass out!
