Certainly football season means cheering on your favorite team and traveling to the games. But let’s be honest. A big part of the fun is going shopping in another town. And who doesn’t love shopping for fall clothes, with their warm colors, cozy textures and opportunities to layer?

Here are some popular shops to check out in nearby college towns.

BATON ROUGE

Tiger Mania, 8976 Interline Ave., (225) 928-5255; Tiger People Clothiers, 4250 Burbank Drive, (225) 771- 8958 – If your blood runs purple and gold, these two shops are where fellow fans recommend you go for a transfusion.

Chatta Box Boutique, 17650 Highland Road #C; (225) 755-5702 – This upscale boutique, salon and spa has been keeping sorority girls as well as women in Louisiana’s capital city looking fabulous for 50 years.

Bella Bella; three locations: 3064 Perkins Road, (225) 343-2352; 7651 Jefferson Highway, (225) 923-1505; 12724 Perkins Road, (225) 757-0090 – A girl is bound to find something irresistible at one of Bella Bella’s three Baton Rouge locations (the fourth one is in Metairie).

Nordstrom Rack, Mall of Louisiana, 9330 Mall of Lousiana Blvd., (225) 508-3030; Dillard’s Clearance Center, Cortana Mall, 9701 Cortana Place, (225) 923- 1712 – If you love a good bargain, carve out time to visit these two stores.

HATTIESBURG

United Apparel Liquidators, 1829 Hardy St.; (601) 582-5141 – UAL has been clothing fashion-minded college women for decades. You can find high-end items at significantly reduced prices here.

Eva Marie’s Boutique, 3901 Hardy St.; (601) 450-0559 – Eva Marie’s is one of those boutiques where both mom and daughter can find something totes adorbs and at great prices.

John White Ltd., 215 S. 40th Ave.; (601) 264-2720 – You’ll find the classics with sass here, along with McCarty pottery and great looks for guys. The shop has been serving Hattiesburg since 1983.

Sacks Outdoors, 200 E. Pine St.; (601) 582-8111 – If you are or someone you love is an outdoors person, this is your locally owned destination.

OXFORD

Neilson’s, 119 Courthouse Square; (662) 234-1161 – This is the classic “on the Square” department store, providing personal service to customers since 1839.

Rebel Rags, 2302 Jackson Ave. West, Oxford; (662) 234-7247 ¬– No visit to Oxford is complete for the Ole Miss fan unless she stops at Rebel Rags, the Nirvana of all things navy and red.

Cicada, 307 S. Lamar Blvd.; (662) 281-0541 – This upscale women’s clothing store looks to the runways of New York for its inspiration.

Hemline, 1106 Van Buren Ave.; (662) 638-3633 – The iconic New Orleans store has a shop in Oxford.

STARKVILLE

Reed’s of Starkville, 302 University Drive; (662) 323-2684 – Reed’s began in Tupelo in 1905, and the Starkville store is now the only one outside Tupelo.

Libby Story Inc., 306 University Drive; (662) 323- 1426 – Libby Story combines an in-house line of upcycled clothing and jewelry with vintage discoveries and current brands for a unique shopping experience.

Deep South Pout, 329 University Drive; (662) 324- 6055 – “Super cute” is the way we’ve heard the offerings in this boutique described, but it’s not cutesy.

L.A. Green, 117 E. Main St.; (662) 324-6280 – It’s a boutique that includes swimwear and intimates, outerwear, athleisure and house and home.

TUSCALOOSA

Effie’s Inc., 404 Queen City Ave.; (205) 345-1814 – This high-end boutique also carries gowns and evening wear as well as daywear.

Dukes Clothier, 914 Queen City Ave.; (205) 248-2853 – Get your cute on here; there’s something for every age of Southern belle.

Vintage Vibe Boutique, 406 Queen City Ave.; (205) 722-2580 – In the historic section of downtown Tuscaloosa, this shop has youthful appeal with, as the name suggests, a vintage vibe, all at student-friendly prices. Mom, you’ll appreciate shoes and accessories, including an adorable “Elephants Are Everywhere” scarf ready for game day.

The Trunk, 609 Greensboro Ave.; (205) 345-0407 – This is the place to go for Crimson Tide and Greek life apparel and accessories and tailgating gear (even a houndstooth koozie). The Trunk also does custom work.
